I have two friends getting married…the problem is they are moving to Guam because one is in the Navy. Because they live in DC where gay marriage is legal, the Navy fully accepts them as a couple and is moving both of them which is awesome! The problem is that the honeymoon is overseas, any gifts have to be able to travel and it looks like a lot of other gay couples are now doing destination weddings overseas. You may ask why gay destination weddings are a problem. They aren’t, but getting gifts to the couple is. Below you’ll find out what you need to know and some resources to help you.
There are a few issues with sending gifts overseas to gay destination weddings.
The couple has to be able to pack and bring back the gift
The gift has to be allowed in the country of the gay destination wedding or honeymoon
You have to worry about the gift making it to the couple
If it’s Costa Rica or other popular gay destination wedding countries, the gift can get stuck at the border and the couple will have to go to pick it up, pay taxes and you’ve now disrupted their wedding or honeymoon
If it’s sending gifts to china, japan or other countries with superstitions (i.e. not using red in china for luck, etc…) then you don’t want to send something unlucky (blue or black with gifts in China.)
So what can you do to help make sure your gifts make it through to the couple at their gay destination weddings and honeymoons? Find a service like the one I shared above GiftBasketsOverseas.com. They have locations or delivery options from within more than 200 countries. Their database pulls appropriate gifts for everything from gay destination weddings to birthdays and because they are local you don’t have to worry about border control, tarrifs or the packages getting lost. I’ve used them to send gifts to Costa Rica and am using them for my friends gay destination wedding in Asia. The service is awesome and they do a follow up once the gift is delivered.
I did coffee and chocolate which is a very well respected gift in Costa Rica and we’re doing a red wine and food basket in China because it is the color of luck, the couple can use it there and not have to take it and since the wine and food is already there, it shouldn’t go bad or break. The trick is finding somewhere that can deliver locally for the gay destination wedding and honeymoon and that is why I love Gift Baskets Overseas.
