Occupy DC Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves with Anti-Gay Marching

The other night there was a silent march here in Washington DC because of an increase in violent hate crimes against gay people. DC is in my opinion one of the most gay friendly cities in the country and that is one of the reasons I love living here. When the three gay bashings happened, everyone was in shock. One person was stabbed, another was shot and the third had their jaw broken in two places. All of them were beaten and it was because they were gay. As a way to show that we’re still here and not afraid, Patrick Pressman organized a silent march through one of the neighborhoods to 17th street where the violence had happened. 500+ people showed up including DC council members to show their support for the gay community in Washington DC.

The march was off to a great start. Marchers walked arm and arm through the street with colored duct tape wrapped around their arms forming a long chain of a rainbow flag. The silent march for anti-gay hate crimes and violence was making a statement and even the police blocked off streets. The silent march was getting it’s message across in a professional and dramatic positive way until the Occupy DC idiots came in and tried to make their cause be known.

Occupy DC is a failed attempt with no real cause, support or purpose and that is why they feel the need to latch on to any group that has any attention. This march was about remembrance, gay rights and non violence. It was a silent march to show our support and emotion to the people who were attacked and the OccupyDC people lined up after the parade and started chanting and making a ton of noise. Not only did they try to take away from a community that was showing it’s support for themselves, but I feel they insulted the people who were attacked by trying to make it a political thing that has nothing to do with anti-gay hate crimes. OccupyDC has done nothing to help DC.

Instead they destroyed a park that I used to love to go to lunch in with their tents. They made an eye sore of the square and made it uncomfortable to walk through for the people who work in the area and actually go to work and pay taxes to be able to enjoy the park. When they decided to make a mockery of a silent march in remembrance of people who were attacked for being gay, that is where I draw the line.

I encourage every person in Washington DC to write to our city council and demand they remove these OccupyDC people from our parks and I hope that if you are gay and you are against GLBT hate crimes, you never support OccupyDC again. In my opinion they have done nothing and now that they are destroying and mocking other people’s causes. Please help get the word out to get rid of OccupyDC by writing about taking our parks back by writing to your council members and tweet and share this post on Facebook.

DADT Repealed, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repealed

So yesterday was a historic day for gay rights activists here in Washington DC and across the country.  Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was officially repealed in the house and senate.   Now as long as Obama, don’t get me started, actually follows through with something we’ll officially be able to let people who want to protect our Country protect our Country without the fear of being thrown out of the military.

Gay and Lesbian military people will be able to keep their benefits if they are out of the closet and they can openly fight in the military.  They no longer have to lie to protect our Country or put their lives on the line for our freedom.  Yesterday was a huge day for all gay military officials and for America for gay rights.  The one person who did get a bad rap that I would like to clear the air for is John McCain.

Although I am completely pissed off about what he said and what he did, someone had to.  The reality of politics is that someone has to play the bad guy whether or not they want to.  John McCain does not believe the things he said and does not stand for them.  I ran into some of the lobbyists who are friends with the McCains and they said he was upset and did not believe in what he was saying.  Sometimes to get something passed and pushed through a Politician has to give a speech they don’t want to and don’t believe in.  It does end up keeping order.  The industry I am in had a similar thing happen with a Colorado tax law.  Someone had to come to the government’s defense and make a speech they didn’t want to and did not believe in.  Although I absolutely look down upon people like Palin, the McCains are not enemies of the gays.  Their daughter has many gay friends here in DC and John is not anti gay.  He just had to come out and give a very hard speech in order to help get Don’t ask don’t tell repealed.  You may not have liked hearing what he had to say, I didn’t, but if he didn’t do it then Don’t ask don’t tell wouldn’t have been repealed.  That is the unfortunate behind the scenes of how the Government works.

Last night the military took the bars by storm celebrating their freedom.  It was about time that the people who fight for our freedom got to enjoy their own freedom to be who they are last night.  They came to Nellies for military only drink specials.  Gay and straight military came to town to show their support of the repeal of Don’t ask don’t tell and gay military couples celebrated the fact that they no longer have to worry about being thrown out of the military and losing their benefits for being in love.  This video I took at town pretty much sums it up.

Why gays should not be allowed to get married

Like my friend Greg said on Facebook earlier…an old one but a good.  This guy sums up why gay people should not be able to get married or be able to have any rights.  No need to comment but feel free to retweet by clicking on the green retweet button to all of your twitter followers. Thanks.

Well, we lost Maine, but what can you do to protect gay marriage for the future?

So last night we ended up loosing out on Maine.  I was stuck traveling and with a huge delay so I wasn’t able to find out until my straight friend who lives in Portland Maine called me pissed off and furious.  Now, regardless if you are conservative or liberal, for gay or straight rights or even just don’t care, what happened in Maine is not acceptable.  Let me go over a few things from all ends.

1.  The equality groups in Maine allegidly and apparently did not spend their budgets fighting for gay marriage in Maine.  It’ll be interesting to see where their money is, was spent and who gets bonuses this year.  They probably did fight for it but gave up when the anti gay groups came in and flooded the tv and media with anti gay commercials, etc…

2.  When you have a huge group come in and run commercials to stop you from getting your law passed or running smear campaigns you fight them off.  My friend said they were running tv ads saying if you pass gay marriage the schools will have to teach about gay sex to your kids.  That is not true, they will teach safe sex, just like they are right now.  Classes will not have to change and your kids won’t have to see gay sex.  Then again, if you don’t want them exposed to sex, you shouldn’t be sending them to school anyways since they do teach sex in the schools.  The gay group should have ran tv ads combating this, but apparently they didn’t, they sat back and watched as gay people lost the right to marry in Maine.

3.  Most people don’t realize or didn’t realize that gays could get married in Maine since the gay groups and the HRC (who I hate and think should be closed down) never promote or make a media whirlwind about Maine.  Maine is gorgeous and has amazing places and beaches and foods and venues to get married at.  Maine should have ran commercials nationally and gotten a lot more coverage from the media to get married there.  This would not only have helped to increase the money coming into Maine, but it would have also helped create jobs in food service, hotel and other jobs for the people of Maine.  Then when it came time to vote on revoking the right for gays to get married in Maine, noone who was now employed and all the people who were making money and if the gay groups would have talked about how gay marriage was helping the economy in Maine, we probably wouldn’t have lost the right to marry in Maine.

Anyways, I can go on and on about what I think went wrong, but what we need to do is protect Iowa and other states that allow gay marriage and help everyone who lives there remember that gay marriage will not destroy their homes, it will help better them and help their ecomony.  When the smear campaigns start, start running your own. If you sit back and do nothing and don’t make it a priority to fight, then guess what, gays will loose their right to equal rights and to marry and we will be back to not having equal rights.  I don’t know if they stood back or if the HRC or anyone donated money, but from what I heard from my friends in Maine, apparently the gay groups didn’t do much and just sat back hoping for the best. If your state may pass gay marriage or may be voting on getting rid of it, you cannot site back and hope for the best, you need to take action and fight for gay marriage.  Don’t let Maine happen to your state.  Raise money and fight the groups that fight you.  Gay Marriage is about equal rights, not about the word or God.  Lets get Maine to allow gays to marry again and lets fight these groups that fight us.
