I survived the Swine Flu….have you?

Sooo on my way back home in the can tonight after kickball and having a couple of drinks with my friends after winning our game I heard over the radio that almost all of the cases of the flu so far in DC have been the actually cases of the swine flu….  So what actually scares me is that we not only made fun of the swine flu at work whenever someone was sick and we completely made fun of the person who was out with the flu, don’t pretend like you didn’t do the same thing,  but we didn’t really actually realize how much this flu actually hurts.

Now, please understand that there is no way I could ever give legal or medical advice and please do not let me convince you to take or not take my opinions to heart or to make your own decision as you need to decide for yourself and for your kids, but if I had to do it again, even if someone said that taking the H1N1 vaccine would preven the pain, the not being able to breath and the absolute misery and hell that this flu caused me, I would never take the shot as the shot scares the sh*t out of me like no tomorrow.  Now, you need to decide if the shot is good for you or your kids on your own, but I am a healthy adult who not only takes care of myself but also lives a reasonable healthy life and takes care of myself….and because of that, I took the risk and did not get the shot….however this flu was not only hell, but actually made me think I would die.

Swine flu is not cool and although I would not take the shot, I would not wish the pain and lack of being able to not only function and breath and be able to talk on anyone on earth, but at the same time, if the shot stops people from feeling as horrible as I did, I would say take it in a heart beat.   Anyways, this flu was horrible and I do not wish it on anyone, but if you are a parent or even thinking about it for yourself, think about the benefits and the possible negative things that this horrible flu could cause and then consider the benefits of not having to feel how horrible it makes you feel but also remember the horrible things that the vaccine can cause and how horrible they can make you feel and then make a decision on if the H1N1 is the right decision for not only you but also for you and your family and your partner.   I would still 100% turn down the shot no matter what, even after possibly living through the flu, but that does not mean you should make the same decision.  If you think it is right for you and for your family, then go for it, but if you think it is bad like I do, then avoid it, but remember, it is 100% your decision and you need to make the choice on your own.  I hated having the flu and it was horrible but I would still never get the shot.

Nellies Sports Bar DC – Events

Ok, so I got an email about an hour or not even an hour ago from my friend Patrick who works at Fannie Mae about a charity event to help raise money for a ton of different gay charities including a few that I believe in and think are worthwhile.  I mean basically, the charities that I support are HIV/AIDS, Breast Cancer, Animal Shelters and Humane Societies, and Housing for Gays that are kicked out of their homes for being gay when they are teenagers and won’t get a fair shot in life.

Although I have never heard of many of the charities below sponsoring this event, they seem like they do some of the above so I wanted to take a bit of time and share this event at Nellies Sports Bar (Washington DC’s only Gay Sports Bar) located at 900 U St. NW in washington DC.  I love the sliders and nachos there so if you go you seriously have to order them because they just kick ass, especially if you have been drinking…

Anyways, back to the event at Nellies Sports Bar in DC.  Nellies is a fun place that does a ton of charity events and fundraisers as well as hosts drag bingo and trivia and a ton of other fun events.  The only thing I hate about the bar is that if you don’t like to drink or eat fatty greasy foods, there is nothing there for you if Bingo or something else isn’t going on.  The upstairs has a rooftop that you can smoke on if you are a smoker and they downstairs has a ton of tvs and the upstairs inside does as well.  It is a pretty cool bar  but I only go when my friends want to because it is never a first choice bar for me since they don’t play music or serve strong drinks.  They are also a bit pricey for what you get, but then again it is a crowded sports bar and they attract that type of crowd so that crowd will pay the extra costs so that they don’t have to deal with JRs which I love or Cobalt who also does a ton of events.

Anyways, back to Nellies Bar in DC and the Fannie Mae charity event.

Nellies has a ton of great events and this is one you do not want to miss, especially since it is for a bunch of very good causes that are not only ones that I believe in, even though I haven’t heard of the charities, but ones that benefit a ton of people both local and around the world.   You can find more information about the Nellies Bar charity event below.  I copied and pasted the email for you for Nellie Washington DC.

ok, so I am loving jones soda for cocktails still and instead of buying coke for mixers for my drinks at home, I have completely gone back to mixing my drinks with jones soda.  I have even got my friends to start doing the same.  My best friend only drinks stoli with sprite zero and now he is loving the jones lemon lime soda with his stoli or even grey goose and I am still lovin mixing the sugar free zero calorie cream soda with liquor for my drinks.  Anyways, I was looking through their regular flavors which are available year round and was thinking it could be fun to make up a couple of jones soda alcoholic drinks and jones soda cocktails for bachelorette parties and really you can use them for any occasion.  Since I love vodka most of these will be vodka based jones soda cocktails, but you can easily switch it would with rum for mojitos if you are using the soda water, etc….  Sooo anyways, here are some jones soda cocktail recipes for your bachelorette party and if you click the image or link to the product, you’ll be able to buy the flavors on sale and even customize the bottles of jones soda for your bachelorette party =0).

Jones GABA – Fuji Apple (12 Pack) – $ 32.00

Take one half bottle of the jones creama de pina and mix in some bacardi or bacardi citrus or malibu coconut rum.  Then add in a splash of mint leaves and you now have a tropical and refreshing pinapple based rum bachelorette party drinks which I call always the brides maid, never the bride.   This one is awesome…on a quick side note, when crushing the mint leaves, do it like you would with a mojto in the bottom of the glass and if you want, do it in the rum or before the soda and only do a little so it isn’t overpowering.

The bridezilla breath mint.  Take this lemon and lime jones soda, limon, and you are going to mix it with fresh mint leaves and a dab of lime juice.  You are then going to add in vodka or rum and you’ll be done and have the bridezilla breath mint.

First, pour a splash of lime juice into the bottom of the glass.  Then add in some mint leaves and grind them like you would a mojito.

Then take the jones limon soda and pour it into a shaker then add in the mint leaves and splash of lime juice.  Then pour in the rum or vodka, preferrably a mint infused one and if you don’t have mint infused or flavored, pour a small very small splash of creme de menthe into your vodka first, then pour it into the shaker, shake heavy and pour.  The Bridezilla Breath Mint is an awesome bachelorette party drink.

Now, pour the jones soda into a martini glass and then drop a cherry into the middle, then if the bride or bridesmaids are drunk, line the rim of the martini glass with whipped cream and tell them before they take a sip, they have to get the cherry, not only will they have a funny whipped cream ring around their mouth, but this drink is fun, funny and fabulous.  I love the don’t pop the cherry jones soda bachelorette party drink.  Also, feel free to pour flavored vodka into this one too if you like your drinks stronger.

Well, I flew to Florida to visit a client and on the way back there was a flu shot stand at the airport and with H1N1 finally just about done, I almost stopped and got a flu shot, but figured there are other people that could use one more than me so I passed it up.  Then again, I guess I jinxed it since I got a sinus infection the minute I got back home.

Anyways, even though my sinus infection passed, it is completely time to switch from iced and cold drinks to tea and hot chocolate for the winter and the fall.  Hot apple cider, hot tea and hot drinks are amazing when you are coming in from the cold and are perfect for when it is too warm to turn on the heat in your home or apartment and too cold to keep it off.  I love to have a glass of tea and lay under my blankets when the weather is between freezing and jacket and when you turn on your heater your house gets way to hot.  If you just snuggle up under your blanket and enjoy a hot cup of tea, especially if you have a cold, a flu, a sore throat, sinus infections, a cough, or anything when you don’t feel good, you’ll stay nice and warm and the tea will help to make you feel better and fix what is wrong.  At least tea works for me for most of the time and actually I need to go to the store and buy some tonight.

1.  Make sure that your pearl jewelry matches the embroidery on your gown.  If you have white pearls, buy white pearl jewelry, if you have colored, choose an offwhite, unless you can match the white jewelry to the dress without it standing out too much because you want to highlight your face, not your jewelry…besides the ring.

Gay Travel Guide and Gay Travel Ideas.

I just realized that I have been posting random trips and reviews of random gay vacations I have been on with everything from Gay Days at Disney World to Gay Days at Paramount Kings Dominion.  Gay Clubs in Greece and Gay Bars in Barcelona.   And one thing I forget to do is to actually include the links as gay travel here, so although there are over 600 pages to gay wedding gear, I am going to start to try and be better about posting about my gay travel by tagging it here at the gay wedding gear blog for gay travel and gay events and gay parties all over the world.  You can also find gay hotels and gay friendly hotels as well as places I recommend you avoid like crazy as they are not gay friendly or hate the gays or don’t want gay business liek magnetstreetweddings and magnetstreet.com.  I got an email saying gays aren’t part of their marketing plan so they don’t want me reviewing them…what pieces of crap!

Anyways, here are some of the reviews I have already done and I will try to tag up the rest of the pages with other gay travel ideas and hotels and places that love the gays and love when we come to visit….I’m also going to be doing a top ten gay destinations post soon so be on the look out for that one when you are planning your honeymoon for gay or straight honeymoons or even just a vacation.   I’ll do everything from cheap hotel rooms and trips to rooms I stayed in that cost up to $2,500 per night at the Plaza or $795 a night at the Grand Del Mar or even $500 a night at the Majestic in Barcelona or more affordable ones that are sometimes even more fabulous like $100+ per night at the Blue Moon Las Vegas or an Atlantis Cruise which is roughly $100+ to $300 depending on the cruise you take per night but it also includes the parties and food and a ton of other things.
