Gay Dating Sites – Which ones are worth it and which are not.

Gay Dating, Gay Dating, Gay Dating….it really is a pain in the *ss sometimes. People are always trying to figure out which gay dating sites are the best and which gay dating sites are for what and how can they better use gay dating sites to their advantage to find anything and everything from a hookup to love or a romantic fling. I’ve been online since the early mid 90′s and have tried tons of gay dating websites throughout the years,,,,sure I was a teenager back then, but that didn’t stop me from signing up lol. I have been on the smaller ones like GKiss to the giants like Gay.com, the ones for love like myPartner and the ones for sex like Manhunt. Regardless of what you are looking for, I am going to update this post on a fairly regular basis and help to guide you through the tangled web of gay dating websites and gay social networks and communities.

So I’m going to start with MyPartner.

MyPartner is run by the fabulous Patrick Perrine out of San Francisco California. Much like Patty from the Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo, Patrick has dedicated his life now to helping gay men find true love through his gay dating website and community MyPartner.com.

MyPartner is not a site for those looking for a cheap thrill, this site is designed to help you find true love. Unfortunately it is not open to lesbians, but it does cater to gay men of all types, lifestyles, interests and beliefs. I really enjoy mypartner a lot and one thing that also makes this gay dating community special is that they have a ton of actually active profiles. Patrick takes great pride in keeping his gay dating site alive and kicking. If you find a profile on myPartner that you like, there is a very good chance that person is still active and you will actually be able to get in contact with them. The other thing I learned from myPartner.com is that most of the people on there are serious about finding love and getting married. They really do want to find their partner and because of that you will find real pictures and accurate information for the most part. At least that is my experience. myPartner.com is a site I highly recommend.

Now this site Pride Dating is cool in it’s own way. I’ll get the bad out of the way first, then get to the good. The thing I didn’t like about this site is that is sometimes freezes up and if you are not familiar with social media sites and how different apps work, this may not be the site for you. I also found the community to be very friendly and almost more about making friends or random hookups then finding love. Then again, it is a gay dating site and not a gay love or gay matchmaking site.

PrideDating.com is actually a site that I do enjoy using and love it because of it’s uniqueness and really cool social media and gay social network attributes. I like all of the widgets and I really like how you can rate people, set tags on them and really build out a gay social dating site and community. Pride Dating is a very fast growing community and I am enjoying being a part of it. I do recommend pridedating.com and hey, you can’t go wrong with a free trial membership.

So this is a site I stumbled across and actually do not know much about. I don’t know if I would recommend it yet like the ones below, but there are a few things that caught my attention with it, besides the name which I love. The first being that Metrodate.com is a gay friendly dating site. You can search by what sex you are looking for and in which zipcodes. Another feature I like is that there is a directory and it looks like ideas listed for people that needs help generating ideas for their dates on what they should do and where they should go. I saw a party listing section as well as dining and more. Metrodate.com is also a free site so hey, if you don’t like it, you can always leave it.

So GKiss is actually a site I came across and liked back in 2005 or 6, but I did have one major problem with it. I saw no active members. That had frustrated me and all the profiles and people I had contacted were completely not active. The couple of people I did get ahold of weren’t actually interested or already found other people. However, this did not stop me from checking back in with GKiss.com later on in 2008.

When I returned, sure enough my old profiles were abandoned, but still able to be logged into (bad user experience), but what I did like is that I created a new free profile and to my surprise, people were actually messaging me and there was an active community built out. I know that communities take a long time to build and that it is not easy keeping an active gay sating site or social community, but I am very happy that GKiss was able to do it. I enjoyed this site a lot as it was one of the very first and original gay web 2.0 social media sites and I am happy to recommend you all to GKiss. Although I don’t know what your experience will be, you may want to try opening a free profile on GKiss.com and see if you can find true love, friends or even just casual dates.

So this site is Gay Friend Finder which is part of the friend finder series of dating sites. Personally I think it is more of a hookup site than anything else, however I do know some people that have had short to medium sized relationships from it, so if your thing is a hubby for the year then an upgrade for the next, gayfriendfinder.com could easily be the right site for you.

Best Man Speech templates

This is the life saver for a best man who has to toast a groom that is already a funny guy. This book is filled with templates and ideas to not only engage an audience but keep them paying attention while you are delivering one lines and punch lines to your buddy. Usually a best man is the best friend, an ex, a brother, a bull dyke or just the funniest guy the groom knows. Usually the best man knows exactly what to say, however, if you need a little inspiration or just help getting started or finishing, buy this book and discover how easy it is to create and deliver a perfect speech and toast to the groom.

Maria and Jeffreys Salon in Chicago Illinois – Broadway Street

So I just went and got my hair cut at this little Salon I had been to a couple times before. It is called Maria and Jeffrey’s Salon and is just outside of Boystown on Broadway. All I can say is that Jeffrey is seriously talented. Both times that he has cut my hair I have walked out feeling like a supermodel. I have also seen his work on both men and women and he is amazing. I have never seen a person walking out dissatisfied and although I have only seen 10 other hair cuts in person from him, each one was flawless.

When walking down broadway, you can find Maria and Jeffrey’s salon in Chicago by walking up a small black metal staircase above the hot dog shop. There is a discoball in the window and hunny, when you walk out you are seriously disco club ready to roll.

I have also had the pleasure of seeing Maria’s work and although she has not cut my hair yet, she is just as good as Jeffrey.

Now, why am I reviewing a hair salon in Chicago for a wedding site? Because, on your wedding day you seriously need to have good hair. I know a ton of couples that have not only flown home to get their hair done or at least styled to find what looks best so they can show their stylists in the city where they currently live, but now adays people are flying in hairstylists for their weddings almost all the time. I mean seriously, your wedding day will have photos shot that last your lifetime and you cannot risk not having perfect hair on your big day. This goes for men and women alike. On my big day, I am seriously going to trust my look to Jeffrey and if you can afford a couple hundred dollars, or you live in Chicago, I would definitely recommend bringing in Jeffrey to make your hair perfect for your perfect wedding.

I honestly believe that he can ensure you will have the perfect hair and style wether it is an updo, long and straight, hair for a man where you need bounce if it is longer, or short hair that is clean and perfect. So anyways, if you need a haircut for any occasion, a touch up or fix up and are in Chicago or can fly someone in, Jeffrey is your guy. Also, don’t forget to mention you found him on Gayweddinggear.com. I told him I would gladly put a review on my blog today as I am loving the hair cut he gave me.

Ring Bearer Pillow Reviews, which is best?

Your ring bearer is going to have one of the most visible roles in your wedding. It is also the time where you will also get to finally wear your wedding ring and have it actually mean you are married. God I have Sadie Sadie Married Lady stuck in my head now….what is going on with me today lol…..Guess it is spring and love is in the air. Anyways, although you already know when your wedding rings look like, now it will have more meaning for you and something not many people think of is how they would like it presented to them. For me, I think this is one thing you should not over look.

I think that your wedding ring needs to be showcased fabulously and on a Pillow that will not only make it sparkle and shine, but one that will make you realize why you chose the wedding ring or wedding band in the first place. Therefore, I wanted to share a few of my favorite wedding ring pillows and ring barer pillows with you all.

Champaign wishes ring barer pillow

This pillow on the left is the Champagne wishes ring barer pillow. This ring pillow is fabulous, especially if you have a faded yellow gold or off white wedding band and ring.

So I am not as much a fan of this one,,,however for some reason people just love it. The Florenzia ring pillow also comes from Eliza Fig…I think all of todays ring pillow recommendations will, and to me it just looks like a regular old couch throw pillow.

I guess it is kind of cute if you have a serious black tie or black and white theme. It also sort of works for two men getting marries if they are in black and white tuxedos. It’ll at least match you guys =0).

The florenzia ring pillow actually kind of looks like a pneguin to me lol. Look at it,,,it is kind of cute with it’s bowtie, but then again it also looks like it has Grandma’s doyelies sewn on in a bad candle sconse design and pattern. Satin Elegance Ring Pillow

Now something about satin and ring pillows just screams creamy goodness to me. Although silk is nice and smooth,,,it almost is too slimy like for me,,,satin on the other hand has the same feeling but also some depth to it. The Satin Elegance Pillow is a special pillow as it is a satin pillow with a gorgeous and fabulous ribbon. Now, although this pillow is tempting,,,I only recommend it for brides who have a large ribbon, bow or tied straps on the back of their gown. I also only recommend this ring pillow if your dress is a bell at the bottom. The ring pillow in my mind should also not only make the ring look fabulous, but it should resemble the bride, his/her gown, and the look and feel of the wedding. If your gown or if you are two men in tuxedos, have a wrap, strap or cumbrbund in a unique color, then this may be the perfect ring pillow for you. Round Ring Bearer Pillow

OMG, can you say hello prince of arabia, ali baba, princess jasmine, casablance, Indiana Jones or the Perfect Ring PIllow for a middle easter or Arabic themed wedding. Hello, this is too fabulous!

This round pillow just screams arabian princess to me. I love it! Although I would never choose it for my wedding because it is soo not my style, I think it really is a great fit,,,it also works for non arab themed weddings, but only if you have a very poofy princess gown with lots of silk or satin and tool to poof out the bell and arms of your wedding dress.

Perfectly Chih Ring Pillow

Although I have about a million more ring bearer pillows to share with you, I also need to get to happy hour and saturday tea dance on time….lol,,,,j/k. I have Saturday brunch with some friends.

This last pillow is absolutely fabulous and one that I will always recommend to someone having a modern style wedding or a high end high class or socialite style wedding. Look at it, it is gorgeous and perfect and screams DIVA GETTING MARRIED…OUT MY WAY! It is called the Perfectly Chic Ring Pillow and this pillow is nothing but short of it’s name sake. Gifts for the Father of the Bride – What to buy him?

So not everyone knows what to get for the father of the bride. Heck, some grooms or wives don’t even realize that they should be giving them a gift. If you think about it though, I think it is not only a nice gesture, but it is 100% mandatory. The father of the bride is giving you a life partner, his little girl and his daughter. The least you could do is pay your respect to him and give him somthing to show how much you appreciate him. (Wow I am in a b*tchy mood today lol.) Anyways, a few thoughts that I found online that make an excellent simple yet ideal gift are:

True, this does look a bit girly, but hey whatever, it is the thought that counts. It is the Father of th Bride Hankercheif. This hankercheif comes from My Spiritual Wedding.

Although I do not recommend many religious things on this site or in this blog, I do love the thought of giving the Father of the Bride a hankercheif as a gift. It is not only simple and practical, but it is also usefull. He can put it in his tuxedo pocket for a touch of class, he can use it to wipe tears away discretely if he is emotional but does not want to show it. He can also just have it as a keepsake and line the inside of a box with your wedding photo in it to show he cares. Anyways, I really like the thought of giving a hankercheif away as a wedding present to the Father of the Bride.

The next gift I recommend for the Father of the Bride is a very classic gift, well gift set. It is something that the Happy or soon to be happy Father of the Bride will not only thank you for, but hopefully invite you to celebrate with him with. Li Lash Mascara – It may be pricey but it is well worth it

Now I don’t do drag or anything….not that there is anything wrong with Drag Queens, but when I saw a Mascara Wand and eyebrow brush that costs over $137, I simply had to try it. The Li Lash wands and brushes are simply amazing. Although I do not wear this stuff, it seriously did work amazingly well. My eye lashes looked fantastic and I hate to admit it, but the length and coloring really made my eyes stand out. I kind of liked the way they looked.

Li Lash isn’t neccesarily considered a mascara or make up, but like I said I don’t wear any so I call it as I see it. It is an eye lash stimulator. I guess the major difference between a mascara and mascara wand and Li Lash is that Mascara is there to add color and make your eye lashes look longer while the Li Lash eye lash stimulator will help you to actually get longer and thicker eye lashes. I know it is mostly mental, but when I did put this stuff on, my eye lashes really popped. They looked fantastic and really highlighted my eyes. I don’t normally give too many reviews on skin products or health and beauty aids, but just like some of the Mario Badescu products I love to use, if I wore make up or needed lashes, this is one product I would not be able to do without.

If I wore make up on a regular basis then I would see this product as a steal and a must have, however if you only wear make up on a semi regular basis, you may want to stick with a traditional wand.

Now you may be asking why I am reviewing this on a wedding blog. The answer is simple, on your wedding day you can splurge and pamper yourself a bit. The Li Lash eye lash stimulator system is a perfect tool to buy yourself and in my opinion begin using 3 months before your big day. The website says it is for 5 months, but I would start it three months before as you don’t want to run out before and I think that it may be just as effective in three months as it would be in 5. Then again I am not a skin care or hair care specialist and I don’t work with or for Li Lash so I cannot give you actual advice, just my opinion. Anyways, I do like this product but my recommendation is to buy it if you use Make up regularly or if you want lashes and eyes that pop for your wedding day. Click here to order Li Lash.

Bonding with your Mother in Law – Also, Gifts ideas for the Mother of the Groom

One thing most Brides never know how to do correctly is to ensure to their new Mother in Law that they will take care of their baby boy just like they would. This goes for both straight women and gay men. Mother’s always worry and why wouldn’t they. Noone can love their boy like his own mom. At least not in the eyes of the mom. This is something that Bride’s do not always consider.

I don’t think that they should try and think about it, however it is hard for a mom to let go, however if you do a few things before you marry her boy, you can easily make the best impression and help to reinsure your mother in law that you will take good care of her boy.

The first thing to do is take a cooking course. If you can show her you can feed her son a good meal and take care of him, she will not only be impressed (even if it is secret), but at least she will know that he will eat well. I don’t care if you can only make one meal, learn to make it and make it well. You can always fake with take out later on at some point. Or you can check out my post on beef wellington in this blog. Just use the search feature.

The next thing you need to do is to show your future Mother in Law that you care and respect her. Let her know what an amazing job she did raising your future husband. Tell her how much of a good man he is and how she did an amazing job raising him. This gives her pride in knowing she did a good job as a parent and created someone that not only she could love, but others could fall in love with too. One thing a Mother always loves to know is that she did her very best and succeeded.

Another thing you can do is about a week or maybe even a month before the wedding, send her a gift or set up a lunch and give her something like this.

This is one of my favorite gift items. Although it does not look like much, it is more of the sentiments that count with it. It is the Mother of the Groom Bracelet.

So I am loving this product line from The Knot. They have products for just about everyone in the family. The products I want to show you today are unique because they are not something you will normally find or see. They are the Father of the Groom collection. Most times when you think of weddings and fathers, you think of the father of the bride, however there is also just as strong of a bond between fathers and their sons when their son is about to get married.

Dad’s are just as proud of their boys getting married and most of them have some pretty fantastic rituals they go through. It’s the whole, Son, My dad on my wedding day told me, or Just like my Father’s Father on his wedding day, or even the beer or outing to play golf or just to have your one on one sit down. Who said getting crabs is a bad thing? Give Your Friends Crabs.

So I am loving this post. I have had a hellish few weeks at work (you don’t even want me to get started on all the stuff I am dealing with) and need a laugh. The thing I also realized is that I really miss the mid atlantic and all the fabulous foods that are there. One food in particular is the Maryland Blue Crab. Those things are delicious and I finally found somewhere online that actually sells them live and whole. Its called the Crab Place.

You basically see where I am going with this. Getting and Giving Crabs no longer has to be a bad thing,,,,well in this case and there are a ton of fabulous and funny jokes that go along with it.
