One thing that constantly bugs me about getting married and helping other people plan their gay weddings is what to do about inviting people who voted against gay marriage to your wedding.  I have family members, including one who helped raise me, that I love and that is part of my life who voted against it.  If I get married and he isn’t invited, he would be hurt more than anything.  At the same time, he voted for me not to have the right to get married, what do you do?  Here are a few other examples and how I handle them.  You’ll need to make your own decisions and I would love your comments and feedback below.

Do you invite family members who voted against gay marriage to your gay wedding?

Trying to figure out if you should invite family members who voted against gay marriage to your gay wedding is one of the hardest ones to figure out.  Yes, they tried to stop you from marrying the person you love, but if you care about them and they care about you, your wedding won’t be the same without them.  When I’m talking to other people, here is what I go over with them and what I’ll have to think about with my own wedding.

1. Can the person behave and be ok with gay people around, you kissing your partner and sitting through something they are/were opposed to?
2. Could seeing an actual gay wedding help them to understand that there is nothing wrong with gay people getting married and that their opinion was flawed or incorrect?
3. Is their Husband or Wife pro gay marriage and will it effect his or her ability to come?  Will they be offended or be put in an awkward position if both aren’t invited?
4. Can you honestly be happy with yourself knowing someone you love, that’s in your family and that helped raise you is not invited to the most important day of your life?
5. Are you going to feel like something is missing because you didn’t invite them in your wedding photos when you see they aren’t there?  Even if they say no, at least you tried and may not feel as bad.
6. If they say no and do not come, will it effect your opinion of them and can that feeling of rejection be repaired?  This goes two ways.

Trying to figure out if you should invited family members who voted against gay marriage to a gay wedding is a hard thing to do.  I would personally invite them knowing that I did the right thing.  If they say no, it will hurt at first, but at least I already somewhat knew the answer before hand.  At the same time, they may surprise you and say yes because they do love you.

Do You Invite Friends Who Voted Against Gay Marriage to a Gay Wedding?

This one is a bit easier for me.  I have a couple of friends who I met through work that I enjoy and really care about.  They are supportive in my relationships and are always welcoming when they have met my boyfriends in the past.  However, when it comes to voting for gay marriage, their religion stops them from voting for it.  They believe in equal rights but not being able to get married or being recognized by the church.  Although I care about them and enjoy them, I would not invite them because they can’t get past the real issue which is equal rights.  For them its about religion and although they would show up and be supportive and friendly, it would also cause them to feel awkward.  At the same time, going to a gay wedding for a friend that they have known for a long time could actually help to change their minds on gay marriage.  Unfortunately, this can also create another issue.  It is expensive to have more guests at a wedding.

Who do you invite to a gay wedding, friends you’ve known for a long time or friends who support gay marriage?

In the example above, I have known these people for years and love them.  At the same time I have friends who I have known for less of a period of time, am not as close to, but they do support gay marriage, are becoming good friends and would not feel awkward at the wedding.  They would enjoy it, bring in a positive attitude the entire time and nothing would be weird.  Who do you invite, the friends you were/are closer to and have known for a long time or the friends which you have that you haven’t known as long but support your wedding and would also enjoy it without feeling awkward.  I am always stuck with this one.

The more people you have the more money it costs.  Do you risk having people feel awkward and ruining other people’s times at your wedding, and also risk hurting their feelings or do you bring people who would enjoy everything at your wedding and have an amazing time.  You want the people you care about there, but you don’t want any negativity or awkward emotions or feelings at your wedding.  I usually try to figure out what the odds are of the people who voted against gay marriage showing up and then wait to see.  If they are out of town you can ask them first if they would want to come, and if they are local to you just ask.  If they sound awkward at all about it on the phone, then you have your answer and let them know that they sound like they aren’t 100% sure so maybe it’s not a good idea.  Make sure you also let them know you still care about them and aren’t offended that they couldn’t make it.  If they get excited about the wedding and say yes, then send them an invitation and hope they are still that excited when they get to your wedding.  You’ll have to make that decision based on their reactions.

You have to remember that at weddings you have alcohol and things that could end up making someone who was opposed to gay marriage have an outburst, especially if they’re drunk.  If you have people there who are opposed to gay marriage, even though they love you, they could also ruin the wedding for other guests.  It is a really odd thing to not invite someone you love or care about, but you also have to remember that it is your big day and something you don’t want any negativity at.  Please feel free to leave a comment below with your own opinions and what you would do or if you are married what you did do.  Please also feel free to share this post on Facebook and Twitter to see what other people think.

Match.com, OkCupid and Gay.com have all been battling it out for the position of the best gay dating site. However, the best gay dating site for you is going to depend on if you are willing to go for a paid account, if you plan on using the site to hookup and a number of other factors. After reading our reviews of the top gay dating sites, you should be able to figure out whether Match.com, OkCupid, or Gay.com is the best gay dating site for you.

A review of Match.com vs. OkCupid

OkCupid is a very gay friendly dating site. When you set up your account, it asks a lot of important questions ranging from sexual positions and drugs to cheating and STDs. As these are pretty basic and preliminary things anyone wants to know about a potential partner, I thought it was great that it could help filter out compatibility on these issues ahead of time. OkCupid is also one of the only dating sites that actually really diggs down into compatibility and asks if you’re a top, a bottom or vers.

If you are wondering what dating site offers best free account, I would have to say OkCupid. You can send and receive unlimited messages, see who has viewed your profile, and it even offers a live chat feature. However, upgrading to an OkCupid paid account only makes it an even better gay dating site. The paid account turns off all of the ads and allows you to browse anonymously. The OkCupid paid account also provides a massive boost for your profile views — as soon as I upgraded, I went from about 3 weekly profile visitors to over 115. I would say that the massive jump was more than worth paying about $20 a month. While the odd woman or ethnicity I had requested to be filtered out slipped through, OkCupid has definitely been an effective gay dating site. I also get to see who has rated my highly and shown a lot of interest in me with the paid account for OkCupid Gay Dating.

Match.com definitely was more of a straight than gay oriented dating site. First of all, it does not ask if you are a top, bottom or vers. No one wants to spend hours getting ready for a date just to find out that they are both tops. Another slap in the face is that while Match.com does offer mixers, which could be a great feature, they do not have them for gay people, from what I could tell. I was also regularly paired with women, and the occasional bisexual woman, despite having clearly checked off that I was a gay man. Even when Match.com got both the sex and sexual preference correct, a huge portion of the profile pictures were just bad and did not accurately represent the person behind the profile.

After using the Match.com free account and realizing that I couldn’t message people or see who had viewed my profile, I had hoped that upgrading to a paid account would turn it into a better gay dating site. Unfortunately, while I could message everyone, they could only message back if they were also on a paid account. Also, after upgrading there were still as many ads as with the free account (which is a lot!) and despite their 6 month guarantee, I had to jump through hoops to get them to give me the free 6 months. After showing customer service that I had met all the requirements multiple times, they did eventually give me the free 6 months from their guarantee. However, they were definitely not nice about it and acted like honoring their word was doing me a huge favor.

What is a better gay dating site: Match.com or OkCupid?

Match.com fails to hold a candle to OkCupid. Lacking important and simple questions that are crucial to the gay dating scene, and inaccurate photos, you may as well just go pick someone up offline instead on a blind date. Match.com also almost forces you to use the paid account, since you can’t even message for free or easily communicate with people. Instead you get emails saying this person is interested but you cannot reach out to them. This would be tolerable, but if you have a bad experience after upgrading, Match.com attempts to weasel out of their guarantee. Match.com is definitely not the best gay dating site. I did however meet a couple of great people and one who I absolutely fell in love with. We didn’t end up staying together but we are still good friends. I do think they did a good job with that one.

OkCupid, on the other hand, does a great job of helping ensure some amount of compatibility, and also offers great features, like instant messaging, even if you are only using the free account. OkCupid is hands down better than Match.com.

A review of Gay.com vs. Match.com

While the majority of dating sites are primarily geared towards straight people, this obviously is not an issue with Gay.com. Not worrying about a poorly functioning filter that places you with the occasional straight guy is a nice, if trivial, benefit of Gay.com. Gay.com also has great chat features, including unlimited video chat, and also offers geo-location, so you can easily find out who is in your neighborhood.

One thing that I did not like about Gay.com was the amount of fake, outdated and generally misrepresentation of peoples profile pictures. It isn’t their fault, but they should try and check to make sure pictures are as accurate as possible. This was also an issue with Match.com, but on a smaller scale. Whenever I met up with someone from Gay.com I would have to worry about if their picture was from ten years ago, or if I was even about to meet the person I had checked out online. However, to balance that out, you can get way racier with the photos you post and view on Gay.com as nudity may be ok with them meaning you could find quick dates and hookups as well as actual dates for a relationship. One feature that I thought was great is the ability to control who sees which pictures. This way instead of private messaging dirtier ones, you can just check them off on a list as you become more comfortable with them.

Compared to Match.com, Gay.com seems to cater to an older crowd, but for some reason there are a ton of people who look way too young to meet the 18 year old age requirement it posts during the sign up process.

The free section is definitely better than Match.com, although that does not say much. While also covered with ads, it offers limited instant messaging and email, so you can at least test out the service without buying it. Since Match.com gives you no emails or messaging for free, you are not going to be able to accomplish much without signing up.

If you have been paying attention to this review of the best gay dating sites, it should be clear that Match.com is not coming out ahead. But this still begs the question; which is a better gay dating site: Gay.com or OkCupid?

Gay.com offers a community aspect that none other services in this review of the best gay dating sites do. The homepage is filled with local and national news, which can be great for coming up with relevant topics to message people about and find fun local date activities. Also, if you read through the front page right before your date, you should have some interesting current events to discuss and fill up any awkward silences.

Gay Dating – Meet Single Guys

I was seeing this guy and we ended up going to the actual step of real dating.  We had also ended up starting to sleep with each other because we did become close and felt like it was moving forward nicely.  We both liked each other a lot and we both felt really comfortable around each other.  He is an awesome guy and he even came over without even knowing me to take care of me when I had the flu the other week.  So why am I referring to him in the past tense?  I ended up dumping him, we am breaking it off tomorrow when we are supposed to hang out again for another date.  Here’s why.

The other night we were having sex and it was bugging me that I saw him on Manhunt.  It shouldn’t have, because I was on there too, but it did make me want to ask how many people he had slept with since we met, especially because the two of us were getting serious.  I thought the question was inappropriate when I thought of it, I knew he would as well, and because we were having sex it was probably the worst time to ask.  Unfortunately I decided to ask anyways.

He responded by saying that is inappropriate and I shouldn’t be asking him that.  Then I realized something after he said that.  We finished having sex, took a shower and I decided it was over.  Instead of our normal cuddling on the couch, I hurried him out and he looked confused as to why I was rushing him out.  The thing is that when you are in a relationship or even dating someone, but you actually move it forward to where you are going out to meet each other’s friends, I think you have a right to know how many other people the person is sleeping with.

When you have sex with someone, you put yourself at risk.  When you are getting close to becoming a couple, you need to be able to ask and know things about each other.  Because he said he wouldn’t answer and that the question was inappropriate, I knew he was sleeping with other people which didn’t bug me.  It’s the fact that he wouldn’t answer that made me dump him.  Neither of us reached a point where we were ready to go monogamous so we are free to sleep with whoever and both of us have gone on other dates.  However we were starting to move towards monogamy and I wanted to know how many other people there were or how many he has hooked up with.  If he cannot answer that, then he is either not ready for a relationship or you can expect him to keep secrets from you.

I like honesty in a relationship and if someone can’t answer something that simple before you are in one, it isn’t going to be a good fit.  I guess I am finally growing up.  The sex is fun, he is an awesome guy, but if he won’t open up or be honest, it’ll never work.  That is why I am breaking it off with him.  It’s kind of funny how an inappropriate question can actually be a completely appropriate question and if the person won’t answer, then they are more than likely the type of person who will hide things from you and lie.  That isn’t the type of person you should want in your life so if you want to know an answer to a question and he won’t answer, let him go.  It’s not worth putting yourself through that, worrying, wondering and knowing he’s lying to you.  You’ll eventually meet someone better who won’t do it and won’t be afraid to admit how many people they have been sleeping with, etc…

The other month I got a phone call from a random person asking about this blog and if I would do reviews.  The lady who called me has a client who creates custom hand stitched pillows for your couch or chair for married people, anniversaries, etc…  She also happens to be gay friendly and wanted to know if me and my husband would want a free pillow and if I liked it, would I review it.

I said sure, I’d be happy to, but I don’t have a husband.  How about a boyfriend?  Nope.  Ummm…are you dating someo…………..and I stopped her and said look, I’m bitter, I’m 22ish and have a cat lol.  How about instead of me and a boyfriend or husband, you do one for me and my cat.  She thought it was a great idea so I sent her the cats name and she asked an awesome question, how old is he.  She listened very well to me when I said in 2007 because she also got a ton of other information like the colors, date I adopted him, etc…  Eventually when I didn’t get the pillow from LBMgifts.com, I started to forget about it.  It is the holiday season and she is giving me a free one so I didn’t expect it overnight.  Then all of the sudden I ended up getting a knock on the door about three weeks after we talked and there was a box.

I recently ended up having the word Autism come into my life.  My mom used to babysit for a kid who was Autistic, but I didn’t think I’d ever have to shop for a Gift for Boys with Autism.  It turns out one of my friends sons has Autism and now I need to buy a gift for boys with Autism.  I did some research and asked a few people and here is what I found out about how to shop and buy gifts for boys with Autism.

The first thing is to have a reputable store like this one.  Every product is hand picked for effectiveness and if a product gets enough complaints, they instantly remove it from their store.  The owner is also a well known Advocate for this disorder which helps to add to the reason I recommend them.  By going through their site and by talking to some people, here are a few things I found to help you pick out the perefect gift for Autistic boys.

1.  Does the gift solve the specific issue for the child.

The gift is only as good as it can help him.  Talk to his parents and see what normally works.  If he needs to calm down or has outbursts, weighted vests or blankets can be life savers.  If he has trouble sitting still and focusing, sitting wedges and fidgets can potentially help with this.  For toys and gifts for boys with Autism, think about the same things.  How can the toy be fun so he’ll actually use and play with it and how can it solve an issue for him.  Is it a game like Blunders that will help with social skills and communications while also being fun, or is it a cool lamp like the tranquil turtle that may help him calm down at night and fall asleep with the soothing colors and lights it projects.  Find something that he’ll actually use and play with, that also solves a problem for him and you have an awesome gift.

2.  Don’t worry about the age on the box.

Even if the gift is for someone 5 years younger, he may be developmentally at that level, or the toy could still be beneficial and entertaining for him.  Think about his developmental age and not the age on the box and find something that is appropriate that way.  You will want to ask his parents first just to double check before you buy the gift so that they don’t get mad you bought something more advanced or well below his age range.  Sometimes seeing a gift is for little kids could upset him as well.

3.  Make sure it is safe.

One thing you’ll want to do if he is opening presents is to make sure the toy you bought him is safe.  In order for the toy to be safe you need to try and make sure it cannot be easily thrown or he can’t hit and hurt someone with it.  It shouldn’t be able to be used to hurt him and there shouldn’t be things on it that he can use to possibly hurt someone else by accident if he has an outburst.  Safety isn’t just age appropriate for toys, it’s also knowing the kid who is getting the gift and knowing what types of outbursts they have, how they react to different environments and also knowing what helps to keep them calm and happy.

Stonewall Kickball in Washington DC has taken off like crazy.  This past Fall Sunday league sold out in under an hour with 400+ spaces going.  You now have to prep ahead, hope the server doesn’t crash and actually know someone to be able to get a spot on a team.  It’s almost as popular as the Miss Adams Morgan Pageant each halloween.  If you’re able to get on a team for Sunday kickball, that’s one thing, the next thing is knowing how to play and then how to play well and win.  You also have to figure out how to accessorize and show off because Stonewall Kickball in Washington DC is more than just a game, it’s now a thing where you go to make friends and compete.  You’ll see everything from multicolored socks to pom poms and tons of booty shorts.  Here are five tricks to help you win and look amazing at Stonewall Kickball in Washington DC.

1.  Learn to bunt.

Bunting is sort of stupid, but if no one is on second base it can almost guarantee you get on first.  If they throw the ball to first (which the pitcher or third base person almost always will), anyone on third will be able to make it home if the person on first base misses the catch.  Here is a trick on bunting to third.

Don’t swing your leg like a kick and do not put pressure or force from your leg on the ball.  Instead, turn your foot to the side, angle it so you may a 45 to 90 degree angle with third base and then push the ball with your foot or tap it but aim from the top half of the ball 1/2 way between the top of the ball and the center of the ball.  This helps keep it on the ground, from going straight to the person on third base and makes either the pitcher, third baseman or catcher have to run opening up bases and helping you get to first and your team score if you have someone on third base.

2.  Look fabulous and find socks to match.

3.  Pitching and Kicking

Some pitchers throw really fast and bouncy balls.  Others throw it curved and a few of them will roll it softly towards you.  Watch the ball and don’t be afraid to walk to first.  If the pitcher is trying to throw the ball, chances are you could end up getting 4 balls and walking to first.  There is nothing wrong with that.  You won’t be sweaty and stink at JRs, your team will be happy you got on first and you won’t risk getting your socks dirty so you can show them off later.  If you’re pitching and want to learn how to really throw the ball or make it pass right in between the 1 foot mark so you can mess up the kicker, find a lesbian and go bowling.

Bowling is the same as pitching in Kickball.  Bowling will help you learn how to control the ball when you pitch.  It’ll help strengthen your arm and get you used to controlling the ball.  You’ll be able to aim the ball within the strike zone more easily and eventually be able to make the ball roll from outside the strike zone to the inside which will mess up the person kicking and make it harder for them to kick the ball and score.  If you want to learn how to pitch or get better at pitching, go bowling and practice.  It’ll help you a lot more than just practicing once or twice before a game.

4.  Act queeny and kick their ass

If you act queeny and drunk, the team won’t expect that you can kick or catch.  This only works once during a game, so make sure you don’t over do it.  If you can kick well, act like a queen and then boot the hell out of it.  You may want to purposely kick a couple balls foul first and make it look like you kicked hard (turn your foot to the side to use the top of your shoe above your toes so it won’t travel far) and then boot the ball when you get a good pitch.  It’ll take the outfield off guard and help get you a good chance at getting to second, third or home.

5.  Have fun

The most important thing about playing in Stonewall Kickball in DC is that you are supposed to have fun.  Some teams are way to competitive and they can F off.  The whole point is to have fun and to meet new people.  Don’t take the game to seriously and go for drinks after.  JRs has drink specials and then everyone goes to Cobalt to play flip cup, beer pong and dance.  Stonewall Kickball in DC is just a game and you are there to have fun.  Don’t take it to seriously.
