So I found out that my one friend who works for one of my favorite wedding vendors had parted ways with them and it kind of started my day out on a bad note. On a good note though he ended up going to work for a website that I had never heard of before called Waxing Poetic.  I really didn’t get why I would promote or talk about a site called waxing poetic but I knew there had to be a reason that he would tell me to just take a look without saying another word or answering my questions.  Not only did I take a look at the site but I was instantly inspired….I didn’t realize how well he knew me and my tastes.

Waxing Poetic is a site that sells modern styled jewelry with a very classic and somewhat antique twist.  The first few products I found when searching the waxing poetic website were the pearl necklaces and pearl bracelets.  Not only do I love how they are sort of dark and sort of emo goth looking but they are also classic and extremely classy looking.  With the new lines of fall and winter wedding gowns coming out, I could only see these bracelets and necklaces being used.

The waxing poetic pearl jewelry is absolutely 100% perfect and amazing for fall and winter wedding jewelry.  It is thick, darker, classic and antique.  They blend into the outfits perfect and highlight your wedding bands and rings as well as your outfits and gowns.   They can be used for bridesmaids gifts but also for the actual bride.

You can buy the smaller or the bracelets with fewer strands for the bridesmaids and the fuller jewelry for the bride and even get the longer necklaces for the Mother of the bride or Mother of the grooms.  Either way this jewelry is an absolute must have for everyone for their weddings.   If you look at almost any fall line or winter line, you are seeing dark colors, denim colors and the wedding gowns are using shadows and darker accents.  That is what makes the waxing poetic pearl jewelry absolutely perfect for just about any fall or winter wedding and because they have classic antique looks they will be in style and in fashion for just about every year in the future.

So tonight I went to a baseball game at the stadium in DC and it was actually a ton of fun.  I had no clue that Baseball games were almost the exact same thing as a drag show at a gay bar.   I’m actually not even joking.

Everyone starts out by piling in and either being on a guest list with a red carpet to get in vip with season tickets or you fight through a line to buy your own.  Once inside everyone gathers around the cocktails and snacks and gossips about the game.  The MCs and hosts get everyone going like the DJ who announces the show is starting or to get ready for the guest performers.  You have mascots, i.e. the queens who need attention and their drag hags running around to get the crowd pumped up and ready to cheer and you also have the people lining up and getting bitchy about being moved from reserved seats when they were trying to steal someone else’s reserved seats.

Once the game starts they play tacky and campy music to get the crowd pumped up and instead of speakers cracking or glitter flying they have a loud and obnoxious MC and fireworks.  Then the announcer plays bad music and everyone in the crowd claps off beat and dances and instead of a queen introducing everyone they have camera men putting you up on a big a screen.  Then they finally get the game started after parading a bunch of fans and people around.

They play a theme song and the players run around and wave, just like a drag show, then they take their place.  I did notice one trend though, there is a solid reason Pitcher’s cannot hit the ball when they bat.  They are absolutely given the wrong name.

The Pitcher stands on a raised platform the whole time posing, lifting his legs and bending over while everyone watches.  Pitcher my *ss, he should really be named bottom or catcher because in reality, who else in the world would stand in front of that many people posing, dusting and bending over but a big old bottom.  Ok so not really but at the same time not so sure they wouldn’t be bottoms if they were gay.  So after he gets done throwing a few balls at some hot men with bats he ends up getting tired and so they take a short break.  Just like with a drag show they make it full audience participation.

They play music for people to dance.  They get huge mascots dressed up in drag like presidents to race instead of an underwear contest so that they can change Pitchers or give them a break like a drag queen changes their outfits or performers.  The players and announcers play games and throw out tshirts, they have people dance and get the crowd excited for the next part of the game.  Just like in a drag show they then introduce everyone and they start the game again just like they start the show again.  If you still don’t think that Baseball Games are like Drag Shows then here is the final thing which really makes the two make sense.

When a drag queen gets on stage to perform she gets an introduction and then a song.  When a player on the Nationals gets up to bat they announce who he is, show his autograph and then he gets to choose a song that plays.  They walk up to the plate and then show off, work their song, swing their bat and hope for applause.   It is almost exactly the same thing as a drag show and when I really thought about it all I had a really good time.  I cannot wait for a night out at the game which is gay night at the Nationals game where gay people take over a section of the stadium and the DC Gay Men’s Chorus sings the National Anthem.  I highly recommend going to a Nats game and highly recommend you have a few cocktails and then come back here to share how much you loved it.

So I was thinking the other day when I started prepping for Labor Day in Rehoboth Beach that not enough people are giving out food wedding gifts anymore.  With more and more Foodies getting hooked on cooking and more and more people loving wine and cheese gift baskets, why are people not giving out as many food wedding gift baskets and food gifts for couples getting married.

So I am completely not ready for Summer and bbq season to be over.  This is when I wished I lived in Texas so I could be just starting grilling season.  Not only do they get to enjoy a great spicey bbq all winter long in the perfectly warm weather but Texans really take pride in the bbq.

The thing is though that great bbq is not just limited to Texas but you have sweet bbq in Georgia, slightly spicey in Tenesse, thick and molasses in Alabama and a really nice cayanne pepper based one in Louisiana.  In California you get cilantro and lemon and in the West you get chipolte and tex mex styled bbq.  With the exception of Tenesse these states get to enjoy a fabulous winter season of grilling and bbq and the perfect way to kick off the winter grilling season in southern states, as well as the West and Southern California is by buying the chef a monogrammed grilling gift set.

I was at a Marketing conference in NYC this past week and someone had set up a check in point as someone’s ass.  Ok, this was kind of funny because the place that you would check into the person’s ass was also the lunch and dining area of the show.  It was kind of funny and you could make a million jokes but it also got me thinking of a really sweet way to use social media to propose to someone you love.

Foursquare is a social media site that lets you log into locations and let everyone know where you are at.  If the location is unclaimed you can create a new one and as people go there they can find it and check in.  The more you check in the more badges you get.  You can become the mayor and the owner or the leader of locations as well and that got me thinking.  If you can open a location as someone’s ass why not open a location as someone’s heart? So here’s my thought on proposing to someone using four square.

Go to a restaurant or wherever you want to propose and set the location up as the person you are about to propose to’s heart.  Then when you are done eating dinner or when you are ready to ask that person to marry you, if they say yes you can check into their heart and if they say no you can check into their ass, j/k you can set up a different location.  Checking into someone’s heart or someone’s soul isn’t only sweet but it is romantic and will allow everyone who is following you or friends with you on four square to find out what your future fiance said.  It also allows them to contact you guys almost immediately and makes it so you don’t have to make a million phone calls to everyone to let them know.  The best part about checking into that person’s heart is that they will realize how romantic and creative you are and it will always make for a romantic and wonderful story that they can share with everyone and brag about.

This morning I woke up to a brand new infomercial on TV for another new body shaper.  We have all seen the Slim ‘N Lift Body Shaper and we all know about Kymaro Body Shaper, we’ve all seen Spanx and Flexees but this one ended up being a little bit different.  Instead of focusing 100% on comfort and avoiding the issues that many people have with body shapers, they jumped right in and decided to address what women and some men are really wishing they would do with a body shaper, make it work for the person wearing it.

So I have to admit it finally, I am hooked on vampire novels.  Not the Anne Rice ones or the Twilight ones but the cool ones with the sexy vampires and intricate story lines like the Laurell K Hamilton Book series.

A few years ago for my birthday a couple of my friends bought me the first four books in the Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake Vampire series.  Although I did not get into them at first, I continued to read and  by the 5th or 6th book I was completely hooked on them.  I didn’t mesh or like any of the characters or the way that Laurell K Hamilton wrote back then but as she matured as a writer and her books matured with her.  Unfortunately she got stuck in a part of her series where everything was about sex.  The books sucked during that part but ones you get passed it and fight your way through into having to read it, Skin Trade completely makes up for the crap books in the middle of the series.  The newest Anita Blake Vampire hunter book in the series though is called Bullet.

Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton is a fabulous and amazing book.  Sure there are a couple of huge orgy scenes in Bullet but Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton interrupts the annoying and overplayed sex scenes with pure action and violence.  She also somehow makes the sex scenes kind of erotic in these books and also adds the action into them so instead of being her same old boring sex stories (The first couple times they were good but they got old fast) she makes it all brand new.

Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton is probably going to be one of my favorite books in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series because it is not only extremely well written and there aren’t as many editing mistakes, but Laurell K Hamilton does an absolutely amazing and flawless job at bringing old characters back, setting up a flawless battle and really gets you excited to see what is going to happen not only in this book, but gets you excited for the next books in the series.  She has not only reenergized my love for the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series but my love for her and her writing as well.

Whether it is the hot men in bathrobes or the drive and fire in the main character Anita Blake, Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton is above and beyond an amazing read so far.  I actually read my way to page 240 today and only put it down because dinner came.  The book is great and not only ties everything together but helps you to remember everyone from her past like the decaying vampires, both Jake’s, the Harelquin, Father of Light, Mother of Darkness, The Traveller, The Dragon, Belle Morte and even when she first met one of her first loves, Richard the local Ulfric in Jean Claude’s office bedroom before he was the Master Vampire of St. Louis.   Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton is an amazing book and I cannot wait to finish reading it tonight.  I wish she would write these more often but if they are going to come out like Bullet or she writes more on the Meredith Gentry series than her books will be more than worth waiting for.  Bullet by Laurell K Hamilton is an amazing book if you read the series and even if you don’t you may be able to keep up.  I highly recommend the Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series to anyone looking for a new vanpire book series to read.  The first few suck but then they get good.  Then they are all about sex again but the last few are actually pretty great books.  Bullet is an awesome book so far and I cannot wait to finish so I’m off of here for the night and if you read it or love Laurell K Hamilton as well, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Summer is going by way to fast and people are getting ready for their fall weddings. One thing I love about Summer is that you can combine themes or at least have themes like the beach or deep and rich flowers as opposed to the spring pastels and tulips, but when you start to get into Fall weddings things change.

Instead of having deep and rich greens you have some earthy tones like browns and dark reds.  You trade in yellows and blues from the summer and end up using yellows and mustard colors.  Instead of floral scents you get cinnamon and spices.  Fall weddings are about warmth and bringing in the season instead of going out into it.  The thing is that fall weddings get to do a lot more than others and get to have some of my very favorite wedding favors and flavors or scents with their wedding themes.  In the Summer you an get away with cotton candy machines and lollipops for desserts and snacks at weddings.  In the fall though you can actually take desserts and fall flavors and tie them into the meals.  One of my favorite things to see at fall weddings are red candy apples and bride and groom caramel apples.

Not only do the red candy apples bring in the deep and rich red color of fall and make it blend nicely with your wedding, but they energize the wedding guests again by giving them sugar and the nutrients from the apple inside.  Now I don’t recommend the huge ones because they are a mess and take forever to eat, but the mini candy apples for weddings are absolutely perfect for weddings.  You can order one for each person and have them waiting at the tables at the reception.  Another thing that I like to do with them is have everyone’s name on a ribbon or place card on their mini candy apple so they not only know which seat they get to sit in, but it also helps you to make sure that you got one for everyone.  The next thing that I love about fall weddings is that you can bring the outside in.

Putting sticks and leaves on tables seems gross, especially during summer, but in the fall you will see orange, red and yellow leaves on tables as decor and even vines that are dried and cleaned as decorations in the flower arrangements and on the tables.  Fall weddings let you bring nature back into the wedding and for some reason people seem to think that having fall colored leaves and vines is classy and looks great instead of thinking they are dirty and tacky.  I love being able to bring the season into the wedding as it not only adds to the theme but it also makes you feel more comfortable.

Fall wedding favors are also some of my favorites.  Instead of spring weddings where you give out flower seeds or bloem boxes which most people just end up throwing away, you get to order and give out wedding favors that are actually useful and that people may end up keeping.  A few of my favorite fall wedding favors include Real Maple Syrup, Maple and Cinnamon scented leaf shaped hand soaps and turning lead bookmarks.  Fall favors are earthy and warm feeling and usually things that are practical.  You can also easily tie wine into your fall wedding theme since wine colors are also very fall oriented and so are other types of liquors.

Although I’m not personally a smoker, Cigars and cigar accessories also scream fall wedding.  They may stink but many men and women enjoy having a cigar with a glass of liquor and if you set up a cigar area and stand at your fall wedding they will flock to it.  Fall is the perfect time to enjoy a scented cigar and an aged glass of scotch, whiskey or brandy.  Summer weddings are to hot and Winter weddings are to cold outside to have a cigar bar.  Spring weddings are about fresh and clean smells and looks so Fall weddings are really the only time you can have a full cigar bar and have it blend into your wedding perfectly.

Fall weddings are definitely some of my favorites because of all of the flavors, colors and scents that you get to use.  I love browns and earth tones and love tying them into weddings.  If you’re having a fall wedding, don’t be afraid that you have to have everything white.  Bring in some browns and other fall colors and let them help create the warm look and feel of your fall wedding.  Fall weddings are my favorites because of how you can bring the outdoors in and because fall fashions are some of the most versatile and easy to wear clothing since you will be dressed for comfortable temperatures and for night time.
