The Top Fall Fashion Trends for Men.

I just have to say that I am going fall fashion crazy with Men’s Fashions. Not only do I love what has come out for fall and how the lumberjack plaid look has dissapeared, but the color palats of mens fashions for fall are absolutely insane,,,,or as Rachel Zoe would say Banana’s. Not only are darker colors and denim colors (not denim fabric) back in big time, but you also have metallics and metallic fabrics coming back in full force. It is almost like emo meets fashionable with a main stream style. Buckels and Studs and Straps are in for fall fashion and mens fashion this fall and you also have jackets, greens and some olive toned browns, greys and blues. So what to wear and where can you find it at all price ranges.

I looked through he catalogs at Express and at Nordstroms, I checked out Sax 5th Avenue and I also looked at TJ Maxx and the one thing in common is the same looks and feels and colors. The differences between them, besides the prices obviously, is the fabrics and the intricacy of the styles and stitches. Express shocked me with a couple of their designs from a distance and in their catalog but unfortunately in person they were the same fabrics but just didn’t look or feel like the high end designers that they resembled. The clothing there was absolutely on key with fall fashion for men and extremely affordable. Instead of pulling clothes from a million sources for this post, I decided to go to an old favorite that everyone in Washington DC or Chicago Illinois knows and loves.

Universal Gear is a boutique clothing store for men. Oddly enough, even though they hire a gorgeous staff and get some extremely good looking customers, I love shopping there because no matter what you look like or how you are dressed they treat you equally at Universal Gear. The other thing that I love about Universal Gear is that they only carry Men’s Clothing and they always carry the most recent and fashion forward trends which means that you don’t have to sift or sort through hundreds of racks of women’s clothing just to find a small section of Men’s Clothes. I love that Universal Gear carries Mens Fall Fashions and is not only reasonable in price but also fashion forward and because of their website UniversalGear.com, you can shop at their store even when you don’t live in a city with a retail location. I fell in love with Universal Gear when I first moved to DC and was excited to find one when I moved to Chicago and thanks to UniversalGear.com everyone else who loves them can continue to shop for their fabulous lines of clothes and selections. So here are my top Men’s Fall Fashion picks for the Fall season from Universal Gear.

The Andrew Christian Scoop Neck Tshirt for Men. This fabulous deep scooped neck grey tshirt for men is not only a universal design that you can see similar versions of everywhere from Nordstroms to Macy’s and Express, but is also a classic look coming in from summer but with a fall design look and feel. I can easily picture this under a bomber styled jacket or under some sort of vintage coat. Perfect for men who have a larger chest or want to hide a bit of a stomach or fall weight, this is an absolutely fabulous tshirt for most men. The thing I liked most about this Andrew Christian Deep Scoop Neck tshirt is that even people with round and oval faces were able to pull it off…it technically looked better on people with an ovular face but not bad at all for the people with round faces.

Ben Sherman Classic V Neck Mint Green Sweater

The Ben Sherman Mint Green Classic V Neck Sweater. V Necks are back in big time for Men’s Fall Fashions. We are seeing VNeck sweaters and tshirts everywhere and Ben Sherman V Neck Sweaters are taking over. Ben Sherman Classic V Neck Sweaters come in everything from a fabulous dark blue to the mint green you can see here. Another personal favorite Ben Sherman Classic Styled V Neck Sweater was the deep red or maroon color. Not only are these perfect for wearing to work but you can easily wear them out walking and for casual wear as well. Ben Sherman Classic V Neck Sweaters are the perfect early to mid fall sweater and if you live somewhere warm enough they are ideal for late fall…except for the mint which we may see coming back for winter.

One other Ben Sherman Shirt that I wanted to mention was his classic and vintage styled cowboy button down dress shirt. It sort of reminds me of something my mom would wear except with its multi colored sleves and fantastic cuts, it is a modern and fun fashionable western wear for men for the fall. If you have to go to a country western bar or a country night, this country western button down dress shirt from Ben Sherman is probably one of the perfect ones for you. I always love Deisel and when I was picking out shirts to review for this post, this long sleeve brown deisel 55 long sleeve brown tshirt definitely made it to the top of the list. Wear it with grey or blue or any dark denim jeans and they’ll be perfect for clubbing or hanging out in a bar. You can also probably see this shirt on yourself while walking through your city, the woods or even just to the store. I love clothing that is universal enough to be worn whenever and the Deisel 55 Longsleeve brown tshirt is perfect for this. This is a must have long sleeve fall tshirt for men.

Fortunate Sun TDX Vneck Tshirt

The Fortunate Sun TDX Brown Tshirt. Although younger people would wear this brown tshirt by itself, if you are over 22 you will want to put it under something else like a zip down hoody, a cardigan or light indoor coat. It has a youthful but sophisticated design and look but at the same time needs something more if you are over 22. I don’t know if I would buy or wear this as it is not my style but I know that looks like these are not only always popular and in demand, but the color is perfect for many other fall lines so it is one of those shirts that will fit into your fall wardrobe easily.

Fred Perry Classic Green Polo

Fred Perry Classic Green Vintage Polo. Every season we see similar polos from every designer but for some reason I love this classic green polo shirt from Fred Perry. Although Fred Perry is not as well known as other designers, his polo shirts are amazing for everyday wear, work wear and business casual. You’ll also see his designs and styles showing up at clubs, lounges and bars everywhere in the fall since they carry over from work to fun for preppy and alternative people. Match them with dark denim for fall or kahki pants for work, these fantastic mens polo shirts from Fred Perry are absolutely perfect and are absolutely Universal Gear for everyone.

The Gstar Battle Drill Bomber Jacket. This bomber jacket from Gstar Demin is one of my absolute favorites from the fall line. Not only does it work for preppy people but you’ll be able to see it on emos, punks, college students and just about everywhere. You can dress it up or dress it down, accessorize it to match your own personal style or leave it how it is to just look great. G Star Cole Cardigan Sweater

The Gstar Cole Cardigan Sweater. Oddly enough my favorite clothes from Gstar usually don’t turn out to be denim. Even though I am also not all about cardigan sweaters, this Gstar denim cardigan sweater jumped out at me as something that guys are going to love for fall. Not only does it have a great cut, but you can wear practically anything from patterns to solids below. Dress it up with a tie or down with a torn tshirt to go alternative, this Gstar cardigan sweater is absolutely perfect for men for the fall…especially if you want to try to pull off the nerdy or studious looks.

Levis Coated Scraped 54 Jeans Slim Fit

The Levis Coated Scraped 54 Denim Jeans. Although I absolutely love the wash and the fade on the straight legged jeans, I can never get over the thread colors that Levis uses on their designer lines. I did find myself wearing and loving a pair of Voi jeans from London with a similar colored thread and because they became my favorite jeans on earth I am giving Levis a chance this fall. The wash and the cut on these Levis Coated Scraped 54 straight cut jeans is absolutely amazing and becaus the stitching does sort of work into fall colors they are an ideal darker jean to match everything from button down shirts to polos and especially tshirts. I can also see these Levis Coated Scraped 54 Jeans matching the bomber jackets and hoodies perfectly. Wear them with just about anything and you’ll look fabulous all fall long and even into winter.

Life After Denim Stadium Cardigan. The Life After Denim Stadium Cardigan is a classic cut but more modern styled cardigan. Unlike the Gstar cardigan it has a lower cut like Mr Rogers but a modern style and color pallette so that it is appropriate for more fashionable and younger people. I could easily see this as an overcoat for early fall or for people who like the vintage look. Pair it with a silver or steel bracelet or watch and decorate it for whatever fashion trend you fall into.

Ok I love these shorts and am definitely going to be buying them for myself for this summer. When I was looking through my product catalogs for gifts for my Dad, I was remembering when I was younger and one of my favorite memories was lighting or cutting my Dad’s Cigars. Although he would never let me actually smoke one, he would sometimes give me an unlit one to hold and pretend to smoke so I could feel grown up like him and also because it was a bonding thing for us. Cigar smoking is a bonding activity and cigars are something many people use to celebrate.

People buy cigars to celebrate a baby being born, a wedding announcement, a bachelor party, an anniversary, a guys night out, a Vegas trip and pretty much anything that is fun and festive. People don’t always associate cigars with cancer or smelling horrible, especially the cheap ones, but they associate it with class, fun and bonding with one another. Cigars are an amazing way to not only create long lasting memories and bond with a heterosexual male, or a lesbian, and if you want to take cigar smoking or have a cigar aficionado or someone who just enjoys one every once in a while, you can go above and beyond giving them a zippo or pack of cigars and give them a humidor and if you really want to go above and beyond what you need to, fill the humidor up with high end or a mixed assortment of cigars and a cutter. When I was looking for a gift for my Dad, although he actually quit smoking cigars and doesn’t keep any in his house, I saw the cherrywood cigar humidor pictured above and immediately thought of him.

Chances are that I will probably get stuck with one of these types of Father in Laws and one of the ways I am going to try and break him in is by bringing over a nice wooden humidor, even maybe one that isn’t overpriced but still looks classy like the cherrywood humidor above, fill it with a large assortment of nice cigars (the assortment is so I can almost ensure there will be one he likes) and also pair it with a bottle of scotch or brandy, depending on what my Partner would say his Dad prefers.

I love Cherrywood and Mahogony and a Cherrywood or Mahogony Humidor to me screams class and even if you don’t smoke or your Father in Law doesn’t smoke, Humidors still make great gifts for the Father of the Bride or gifts for the Father of the Groom. Humidors can be used for storage, to hide things from his Wife, to store pictures or pretty much anything else that you wouldn’t want people to find.

I love the idea of giving a humidor for a gift and think that it makes a perfect gift for the Father of the Bride or the Father of the Groom to not only bond with him but show him you can be thoughtful and you made an effort to win him over. Again, I am opposed to smoking, but I think that a cigar to bond with your future Father in Law is a perfect gift and way to build a relationship with him as well as show him you have some class and made an effort. Watches from Love and Pride, A Perfect Wedding Gift

So I just realized something,,,I have been affiliated with Love and Pride for a very long time but I never actually recommend anything from them and I feel pretty horrible about that. Love and pride has been an online retailer for many years for the gay community and they have some fantastic products for the gay community and I do believe still support us, so it is my turn to support them and start sharing some of their fabulous product lines with all of you.

Mario Badescu Skin Care – How to use it and Where to Buy It!

Soo with summer time here and everyone needing extra care for their skin, not only to protect it from the sun, but to repair damage done by the sun, chlorine or dirty ocean and lake water, and not to mention to take precaution for your wedding, a date or anything else that may call for perfect healthy and glowing skin, I wanted to share with you something that not many people can get (mainly because it is seriously expensive) an overview of proper skin care from Mario Badescu using Mario Badescu skin care products.

I had the very lucky and fortunate experience of getting to meet with Mario Badescu’s owner and CEO (believe it or not, he is straight and of course has amazing skin!) and after we got to talk for a while, he gave me probably one of the best gifts anyone could ever get. A free line of his cosmetics and a consultant to help me find what would work best for me, as well as a ton of their other fabulous products that work great for almost everyone across the board. Normally this is reserved for their celebrity clientel but since I was lucky enough to get this consultancy abut a year ago, I have decided to now share with everyone what I was taught and the different products that I am using. Let me tell you, these products work amazing and even though I am normally alergic to almost everything (especially with a scent), for some reason, none of the Mario Badescu skin care products actually cause me to break out, turn red or get itchy. They have also helped me to maintain flawless skin and make me look and feel younger.

I love the Mario Badescu products, my favorite being the cucmber clay mask, and although the consultancy is very expensive, like going in for a facial in their Manhattan office, their product line is affordable and can easily be bought by clicking on any of the links and images found in this post.

I have tried using a ton of other skin care products and lines and the only one I have ever stuck with and will use regularly is Mario Badescu. Once you try it, you will never go back!

Now, before I start, this is just what I use regularly, there are a ton of other products that I love that they make like their botanical body wash that I love and adore, but since we are only talking about daily face and skin care, I am only mentioning face care and shaving needs from Mario Badescu.

Enzyme Cleansing Gel (16 oz.) – $ 20.00
This is Mario Badescu’s Best Selling Daily Cleanser. The Ezyme Cleansing Gel is a non-foaming, gel cleanser that helps to thoroughly remove the day’s make-up (if you wear it), as well as dirt and oil without drying your skin out. Made with Papaya Extracts are exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids that helps prevent dulling build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples. The Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel is a must have. I love how clean my skin feels after everytime I use it. I’m not just saying that either….you’ll see a couple products down I actually don’t like a couple of their skin care products.

How I was told to use the Enzyme Cleansing Gel:

Use twice daily to gently cleanse skin.

(On a side note) I like the way this feels. This is a pretty cool product that does leave you feeling clean and refreshed. When you aren’t using your twice weekly or three times a week cleaner, I highly recommend using the Enzyme Cleansing Gel at night before bed on your face and before you go out or just after you get up in the morning.

Special Cucumber Lotion (8 oz.) – $ 15.00
The Mario Badescu Special Cucumber Lotion is a refreshing and disinfecting deep cleaning astringent that is not only effective in drying up existing acne blemishes, i had some serious issues with this before I began using this product, while preventing new eruptions. Sulfur and soothing Cucumber based, acne fighting formula that is non-drying and non-irritating.

How I was told to use this:

use astringent twice daily after cleansing to prevent breakouts.

(On a side note) This product does what it says. I am not crazy about it but I do love it and I do enjoy using it. If you have problem skin, you may want to include this in your arsenol of products that you use to fight blemishes….this mixed with the Buffering Lotion is a great way to help treat pimples and blemishes as well as prevent futures blemishes and pimples from forming.

Ceramide Eye Gel (0.5 oz.) – $ 18.00
The Mario Badescu Ceramide Eye Gel is used to improve the delicate eye skin’s hydration levels with our fabulous greaseless, lightweight ceramide eye gel formulated with softening Ceramides and nourishing Herbal Extracts. The Mario Badescu Ceramide Eye Gel diminishes puffiness and tired eyes. Store in the fridge for a soothing morning eye treatment.

How I was told to use this:

keep refrigerated – apply under eye area to hydrate and calm puffiness.
(On a side note) I always bring this with me when I travel,,,and call ahead to the hotel to make sure I have a fridge in my room so I can keep it cool. This product is amazing and kind of funny. I remember opening it for the first time and thinking it was like the slime stuff we used to play with when we were kids. However, this slime helps to keep my eyes looking fabulous for meetings with Clients and dates with people or going out at conferences…this is another must have. I don’t know if it is the gel that works or just the cool slime, but somehow my eyes never get puffy or baggy if I have this with me.

Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17)

Oil Free Moisturizer (SPF-17) (2 oz.) – $ 22.00
Like the Oil-Free Moisturizer, this lotion has the same benefits for oily and problem skin with added daily sun protection to keep scarring and discoloration to a minimum.

How I was told to use this:

use daily to moisturize face.

(On a side note) This is one that I can do without…really any moisturizer will do. I actually prefer their olive based skin lotion to this, however this product is one I do actually continue to use in the summer if I am going to be out in the sun, but if not, then I usually pass on it. I know I shouldn’t but hey, it is fairly pricey. This product also combines with an after shave hydrating balm which I mention later on in this post.

Cucumber Tonic Mask (2 oz.) – $ 18.00
The Mario Badecu Cucumber Tonic Mask is made to purify and tighten pores with this cooling, refreshing, mask. Made with soothing Cucumber Extract and oil absorbing clays. For maintenance on normal, combination and oily skin, this mask keeps skin looking smooth and healthy.

How I was told to use it:

use two to three times weekly for 15 minutes to deep clean skin – follow the Mario Badescu Cucumber Tonic Mask with a toner.
(On a side note) This is my very favorite product from all of Mario Badescu. I cannot live without it. It cleans out all my blackheads, makes my skin feel tighter, it’s refreshing and it is one of the most relaxing products I have ever used in my life. The Mario Badesce Cucumber Tonic Mask is a must have and must try and must use. This is one product I recommend to everyone everywhere.

Glycolic Foaming Cleanser (6 oz.) – $ 15.00
The Glycolic Foaming Cleanser from Mario Badescu is for dull, congested skin. I hate the way they describe that….it makes you feel like that isn’t me, but seriously give this stuff a shot and don’t assume your skin is perfect, we all have skin issues to work on and this is one of the good products. This lathering, deep cleanser has the exfoliating powers of Glycolic Acid to break down build-up from skins surface, reduce minor discoloration and leave skin radiant and smooth. Formulated with Herbal Extracts for soothing benefits. Best when used 2-3 times weekly or as recommended by your skin specialist based on your skins needs.
How I was told to use this:

use two to three times a week (always use when I get in on Sunday morning for me if I go out and have been sweating and drinking the Saturday night before I get into bed) at night to deep clean and exfoliate the skin.

(On a side note) I actually do like this. If I have been sweating or around smoke, this makes my skin feel good, clean and fresh before bed and I love laying down with my skin and face feeling fresh. I actually do recommend buying this product if you like a clean feeling face if you sweat a lot or have an active social life on the weekends, or even if you just need a product like the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser.

Buffering Lotion (1 oz.) – $ 17.00
This is probably the best known product in the Mario Bedscu line, it is the Mario Badesc Buffering Lotion which is specifically designed to treat deep, cystic blemishes. Mario Badescu Buffering lotion is a sulfur based solution that allows the lotion to be quickly absorbed into the skin in order to treat the source of deeply rooted pimples. Buffering Lotion is an excellent acne treatment containing Allantoin to calm and soothe inflammation and promote healing. Buffering Lotion is best when used before and after Drying Mask.

How I was told to use this:

Shake well then apply one to two drops on deep blemishes using my fingertips to heal blemishes.

(On a side note) I know a ton of people that call this the miracle acne cure. Some think it works instantly, however I disagree. It definitely clears up pimples and in my opinion, much faster than Oxy Pads or Pro Active, however it usually takes two or three applications to get rid of my tough zits. I do also use this on ingrown hairs. It isn’t designed for that, but it seems to help dry them out so that I can pop them or get the hair out so it doesn’t swell up any more or hurt.

Pre-shave Conditioner (4 oz.) – $ 14.00

How I was told to use this:

(On a side note) I personally don’t like pre shave conditioners and do not usually have time for the extra prep work to use them. I know it is only a minute, but I never actually use this unless it is a special occasion and I plan on giving myself enough time to actually go ahead and apply this with a few other things. This is a good product, but I don’t normally use it very often.

Shaving Cream (4 oz.) – $ 12.00
Soften and Prepare the Beard For a Perfect Shave. A thick and concentrated shaving cream that protects and moisturizes the skin. Non-foaming formulation provides maximum moisture from the harsh effects of daily shaving. Lavender has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

How I was told to use this:

apply a thick layer on top of the pre shave conditioner before shaving.
(On a side note) This is just like any other shaving cream, sure I love it and it isn’t a horribly oily or greasy mess, but then again, I don’t like spending a ton of money on shaving cream, if you like labels and want a nice shaving cream and don’t mind spending a few extra bucks, then go for it. The Mario Badescu Shaving is pretty nice but I could do without.

Mario Badescu Vitamin A & E Hydrating Balm

Vitamin A & E Hydrating Balm (1 oz.) – $ 25.00
An Aftershave Balm and Moisturizer in One. Lightweight hydrating balm softens the skin and reduces irritation. Formulated with Peanut Oil which is an emollient high in Vitamin A along with Cucumber Extract to help soothe sensitive skin. How I was told to use this:

So one thing in common between straight men asking their future father in law for their duaghter’ hand in marriage have in common with gay men and lesbian women is that they are nervous.
